CVE Workshop for Mayor of London

With the launch of TCCS imminent, we were delighted to run a communications workshop at a daylong conference for civil society organisations supported by the Shared Endeavour Fund. The Mayor of London’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) runs an active programme to counter violent extremism. Earlier this year nearly 20 groups operating across Greater London successfully applied to MOPAC’s Shared Endeavour Fund.

With our experience in designing and delivering counter terrorist and counter extremist communications campaigns, we were invited to a deliver a session that introduced the attendees to some core modules that will help them progress their objectives and better communicate to their audiences. Youth engagement programmes, sports organisations, women’s support, and religious groups brought a cross section of London life, and the challenges extremism creates, into the room.  We talked through and ran practical implementation exercises around Building a Strategic Communications Strategy, Practical delivery (PR) online and offline and Building a Network of Resilience.

The feedback we received from the day was tremendous and we were highly impressed with the level of engagement and thought that each working group put into their practical exercise. During the day we also heard from the inspirational Kim Leadbeater MP. Kim talked about her own experience setting up a campaign to counter violent extremism, Better Together, following the tragic murder of her sister Jo Cox MP in 2016. It is a highly impressive organisation set up in the worst of scenarios by a deeply inspirational woman.

Among the practical areas covered during the day long conference was the importance of Evaluation. This is so important when it comes to reporting and, particularly for civil society organisations, when bidding for funds. A team from the Institute for Dialogue (ISD) provided a vivid and highly practical seminar on evaluating community impact. TCCS embraces the value and challenge of evaluating communications in community settings. Core to the communication methodologies we have developed and implemented, is the need for evaluation. Whether you work as a civil society organisation or a big business, TCCS will help provide the mental grid and core criteria that need to be asked of the work to provide our clients with the means to evaluate and report on the impact of their communications in the community.

We are delighted to be partnering with the groups in the Shared Endeavour Fund and MOPAC. In 2022 it will be exciting to work with them again, developing the communications capabilities of all the groups supported by the Shared Endeavour Fund.
